Neuralink Competitor by Valve CEO Gabe Newell Aims to Release First Brain Chip This Year
Valve CEO and co-founder Gabe Newell, known for Half-Life and Steam, has long explored the idea of connecting the brain to PCs. His new venture, Starfish Neuroscience, plans to release its first brain implant later this year. The chip will record brain activity and stimulate the brain for therapeutic purposes, though it’s not a complete implant. Starfish aims for a less invasive device that can access multiple brain regions simultaneously and operate wirelessly. The chip, designed with ultra-low power consumption, measures 2x4mm and features 32 electrodes. Starfish also researches precision hyperthermia and brain-reading robotics for neurological treatments.
